Ironbank Bushland

SOLD

The Ironbank Bushland is located immediately north of the Ironbank Township on Ironbank Road and is approximately 22 kms from the Adelaide GPO or about half an hour's drive in non peak times.

Two allotments, 8.5 and 8.4 hectares respectively, comprise messmate woodland with a fine shrub layer and ground cover of wattles and wildflowers. The country is quite undulating with a series of ridges and gullies that supports a high diversity of
flora and fauna including:

• Short-beaked Echidna (Tachyglossus aculeatus);
• Yellow-footed Antechinus (Antechinus flavipes);
• Grey Kangaroo (Macropus fuliginosus);
• Golden Whistler (Pachycephala pectoralis);
• Scarlet Robin (Petroica multicolour);
• Yellow-tailed Black Cockatoo (Calyptorhynchus funereus);
• Pink Ground-berry (Acrotriche fasciculifolia);
• Hairy Pink-bells (Tetratheca pilosa ssp. Pilosa); and
• Sun Orchids (Thelymitra sp).

Most importantly, these two allotments are critical habitat for the Southern Brown Bandicoot (Isoodon obesulus obesulus) which is currently listed as Endangered under the Commonwealth's Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. In South Australia the species is listed as Vulnerable under the National Parks and Wildlife Act 1972.

Of the eight species of bilby and bandicoot that originally occurred in South Australia, only the Southern Brown Bandicoot can still be found in the state having survived habitat loss and predation by dogs, cats and foxes. Recent surveys conducted on the property suggest that high numbers of the Southern Brown Bandicoot have persisted and the success of the species at this location highlights the importance of active ongoing management to reduce the threatening processes facing the species and ensure its continued survival.
